Sand Volleyball Courts at Jerry Ivey Park Almost Complete After Two-Year Process

The sand volleyball courts at Jerry Ivey Park are nearing completion after a two-year process, according to an update provided at the recent Salina Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting. During the project status updates portion of the meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Hammond reported that the volleyball courts are "almost complete" at Jerry Ivey Park. The department is currently waiting for a few items that need to be shipped to the construction firm hired for the project. "We had to make an adjustment on the net size," a parks official noted during the meeting. "However, that'll be delivered, and then within two weeks time, they'll have everything in from the company and installed, and we'll wrap that project up." The volleyball facility will feature two pits side by side, which has generated excitement among the local volleyball community. As one official commented, "We have a pretty good volleyball group, so they're excited." The sand volleyball courts project has been in development for approximately two years, according to comments made during the meeting. Other future plans for Jerry Ivey Park mentioned during the meeting include potential bathroom refurbishments similar to other park bathrooms in the city, cleaning of the Compassionate Friends garden on the south end of the park, and a splash pad project that is currently in the proposal evaluation phase.
