New Playgrounds Under Construction at Kenwood Park and Bill Burke Park

Construction has begun on new playground equipment at Kenwood Park, with Bill Burke Park set to follow, according to Salina Parks and Recreation officials.

Park staff recently demolished the former small playground unit near the train in Kenwood Park, and this week contractors started installation of the new playground equipment at that location.

"I think the rain this week might get in their way a little bit as far as their progress," said Jeff Hammond, Parks and Recreation Director. "However, they have started at the Kenwood Park playground, and then they'll move on to Bill Burke playground, which our staff also demolished."

The timeline for completion of the Bill Burke playground will depend on weather conditions, according to parks officials.

More specific completion dates are expected at the next Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting.

The playground replacements are part of ongoing improvements to Salina's parks system.

Other current projects include shelter installations at Barkley Dog Park, concrete improvements at Oakdale and Thomas Parks, and the construction of a splash pad at Jerry Ivey Park.
