Early Morning House Fire Causes Significant Damage in Brookville

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office and Rural Fire District No. 3 responded to a structure fire early Sunday morning in Brookville. At approximately 10:00 a.m., deputies and firefighters were dispatched to 404 West Second Street after the resident, Bo Snyder, reported hearing a popping noise near the breaker box in the utility room.

Snyder told responders he observed sparks and smoke before calling 911 and evacuating his dogs. Other family members had already exited the home. Firefighters located the origin of the fire in the attic and were able to extinguish the blaze.

To fully suppress the fire, a majority of the ceilings inside the 1,300-square-foot residence were removed. The home sustained extensive smoke and water damage. The structure is valued at approximately $140,000, with additional personal-property loss expected. No injuries were reported.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
