Early-Morning Traffic Stop Leads to Methamphetamine Arrest on North Broadway
Salina Police arrested a man early in the morning on the 10th after a traffic stop that began at approximately 2:30 a.m. Officers observed a silver Chevy Silverado with an expired registration in the 700 block of North Broadway and initiated the stop in the 800 block of North 12th Street.
According to police, the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away. Officers reported that the individual reached toward his jacket or waistband, prompting safety concerns. He resisted officers’ efforts to detain him but was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody.
A search of the driver resulted in the discovery of a suspected methamphetamine pipe and a small bag of marijuana. Officers then searched the vehicle and located two bags of suspected methamphetamine, prescription medication, a glass smoking pipe, more than a gram of marijuana, and approximately 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
The driver was identified as 29-year-old Aaron Towns. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, no drug tax stamp, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with law enforcement, possession of marijuana, and expired registration.
The investigation remains ongoing.
