Juveniles Taken Into Custody After Stolen Vehicle Located Near Kenwood Park
Salina police investigated a reported vehicle theft that occurred late Sunday night, December 28, with the case documented on Monday, December 29.
The incident involved a 2016 Dodge Journey bearing Kansas license plate 7869AKA, which was reported stolen after being last seen parked in front of a residence in the 100 block of Gypsum. Shortly after the report, an officer located the vehicle near the intersection of Gypsum and Iowa.
Officers followed the vehicle as it traveled westbound on Gypsum and then southbound on Ohio. The vehicle was stopped near Kenwood Park Drive in the Midway area.
Two juvenile males, ages 14 and 13, were taken into custody following the stop. Investigators reported there was no known connection between the juveniles and the vehicle’s owner. During the review, it was discussed that the vehicle may have been taken after the owner’s keys were unintentionally dropped, though this has not been confirmed.
The juveniles were transported for processing and later transferred to the Juvenile Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
