Salina City Commission to Hold Organizational Meeting Monday
The Salina City Commission will conduct its annual organizational meeting on Monday, January 12, marking the end of one era and the beginning of another for the city's leadership.
The meeting will feature the swearing-in of three commissioners and the election of new leadership positions for the governing body.
New Commissioners Take Office
Three commissioners will take the oath of office during the meeting: Dr. Trent Davis, M.D., Greg Lenkiewicz, and Doug Rempp. They will join continuing commissioners Hoppock and Ivey on the five-member board.
The ceremony marks the conclusion of Commissioner Bill Longbine's term, which began on January 10, 2022. Longbine is expected to deliver outgoing remarks before the organizational portion of the meeting begins.
Leadership Transition
Greg Lenkiewicz, who has served as mayor since January 13, 2025, will be stepping down from the mayoral role to continue serving as a commissioner. According to the meeting agenda, Commissioner Hoppock is nominated to become the new mayor and chairman of the Board of Commissioners, while Commissioner Ivey is slated to be nominated as acting mayor and vice chairman.
Both outgoing officials will be recognized for their service with plaques of appreciation during the ceremony.
The organizational meeting will be presided over by the City Clerk, who will administer the oath of office and oversee the election of new leadership before turning the gavel over to the incoming mayor.
