Buchwald: Street Crews Monitoring Winter Storm; Road Plan Pending
Salina street crews are monitoring an approaching winter storm, but officials say it is still too early to finalize a snow response plan.
Brent Buchwald, Salina’s Street Superintendent, told Salina311 that snowfall estimates have varied widely in recent forecasts, ranging from one to five inches and, in some models, up to eight inches. Because of the uncertainty, Buchwald said crews are waiting for clearer data before finalizing staffing and treatment strategies.
Buchwald said salt spreaders are currently on standby and can be deployed once a plan is finalized.
As of this afternoon, weather models reviewed by Salina311 have placed Salina in the potential path of approximately eight inches of snow, though forecasts remain subject to change.
City crews are expected to finalize preparations closer to the storm as confidence in snowfall totals and timing improves.
Salina311 will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.
