County Road Crews Treating Roadways, Urge Caution on Refreezing Overnight
Saline County Road and Bridge crews are actively treating and plowing roadways throughout the county today. Officials warn that while conditions may improve during daylight hours, roads are expected to refreeze overnight and into the morning.
Changing temperatures can create slick spots even without additional snowfall, particularly on bridges, overpasses, shaded areas, and less-traveled roads, according to county officials. Driving conditions later tonight and early tomorrow may differ from daytime conditions.
The county is advising motorists to drive slowly, leave extra space between vehicles, and expect slick spots on bridges and untreated surfaces. Additional safety recommendations include clearing ice and snow from windows and lights before travel, avoiding cruise control on snowy surfaces, and carrying a winter emergency kit.
Saline County Road and Bridge will continue to monitor conditions and adjust operations as needed. The county encourages residents to use the Snowpaths service to see which roads have been recently cleared.
