K-State Salina Civic Lecture to Focus on Community-Driven Change
Kansas State University Salina's February Civic Lecture Series will explore how everyday people can create meaningful change in their communities through collective action and shared purpose.
Ben MacConnell, Great Plains coordinator at the Direct Action and Research Training (DART) Center, will lead "The Power of People to Impact the Common Good" on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in the K-State Salina College Center Conference Room, 2310 Centennial Road.
With 25 years of experience in the DART network, MacConnell has helped establish and staff organizations across Kansas and Nebraska focused on people-powered organizing.
MacConnell believes that change starts with people, not institutions. While solutions to challenges like housing insecurity, gaps in health and mental health care, substance abuse, and over-incarceration already exist in communities, what's often missing is the public will to implement them.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Attendees can bring their own lunch or purchase a meal from K-State Salina's Centennial Dining.
