Salina City Commission to Consider Bridge Replacement Design, New Special Improvement District Monday

The Salina City Commission will take up several significant items at its regular meeting Monday, including a $302,985 engineering agreement for the Smoky Hill River bridge replacement on Magnolia Road and the creation of a new special improvement district near Interstate 70.

The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash, Room 107. Commissioners will also tour Fire Station No. 4 at 3 p.m. ahead of the meeting.

Among the largest dollar items on the agenda, commissioners will consider authorizing the City Manager to execute a Phase I engineering agreement with Schwab Eaton for the design of the Magnolia Road bridge replacement over the Smoky Hill River, at a cost not to exceed $302,985.

Commissioners will also weigh a $125,600 engineering agreement with Alfred Benesch and Company to study traffic and design improvements at the Schilling Road and Ohio Street intersection.

On the development front, the commission will consider a Resolution of Advisability to establish a Special Improvement District in the Interstate District SW of I-70 Addition No. 2 and authorize a related development agreement.

In other business, the commission will hold public hearings on a pair of naming proposals: one to relocate the Earl J. Bondy Baseball Complex name to ball fields No. 1 and 2 at the Berkley Family Recreational Area, and another to officially name the dog park at John Parker, Jr. Park The Barking Lot.

Additional agenda items include approval of an ordinance related to the Salina Airport Authority use of Series 2025-1 Note proceeds for substitute improvements, and a resolution to fund a ReUse It Center from the Solid Waste Fund.

The commission also plans to enter executive session to discuss an undisclosed economic development prospect involving trade secrets and to receive legal advice on economic development incentives.
