Free Presentation to Examine Myers-Briggs and Personality Testing Feb. 11
Two local psychology experts will explore the science and limitations behind popular personality tests in a free public presentation at the Salina Art Center on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 6-7 p.m.
Dr. Steve Hoekstra, professor of psychology at Kansas Wesleyan University, and Dr. Paula Fried, a local psychologist, will present "What's Your Type? The History, Promise, and Limits of Personality Typing." The presentation will focus on the widely-used Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and examine how personality typing works, where it succeeds, and where it falls short.
"People instinctively want to classify people into groups and to use that knowledge to predict what people might do," Hoekstra said. "Many personality tests are also used for workgroups or to judge relationship compatibility. We're going to explore how personality forms, whether it can change, and how it is or isn't useful in everyday life."
The presentation will take place in the Salina Art Center's gallery at 242 S. Santa Fe Ave. For more information, visit salinaartcenter.org/galleries.
