David James Vega
April 5, 1960 - January 29, 2026 (age 65)
David Vega spent five decades in Salina after a childhood that followed his Air Force family across the globe. A founding board member of the Kansas Crossroads Blues Society, he was rarely far from a stage, a record player, or a vintage guitar that he was restoring. Friends and co-workers knew him for the same loyalty and work ethic he poured into nearly 48 years at General Battery/Exide/Stryten Energy.
He is survived by children Amos Vega and Miranda Brown (Aaron), grandchildren Christian and Chloe Vega, Derek (Lillie) Knapp, Avery, Lainey, Graham, Genevieve, and Ava Brown, siblings Nora Vega-Mans (Michael) and Edward Vega, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 21 at Sacred Heart Cathedral with inurnment at All Saints Catholic Cemetery and a taco luncheon in his honor. Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas.

Mary “Ginny” Zook Bevan
November 18, 1934 - February 1, 2026 (age 91)

Dr. Mary “Ginny” Bevan devoted 40 years to Kansas Wesleyan University as a professor, coach, dean, and tireless advocate for women’s athletics. Working alongside her father—founder of the Salina Recreation Commission—she reimagined neighborhood playground programs, then helped organize statewide competition through AKWIS/KAIAW long before Title IX had teeth.
She is remembered by children Charla Bevan-Jones (Rick), Michael Bevan (Ruth Anne), and Julie Banning (Kent); six siblings; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A visitation begins at noon Saturday, February 14 in Sam’s Chapel on the KWU campus, followed by a 1 p.m. “Legacy of Love” celebration and burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Kansas Wesleyan Advancement Department.

Cecil Leroy Brewster
March 17, 1948 - February 5, 2026 (age 77)

Cecil Brewster’s childhood zig-zagged from Nebraska to Oregon before he graduated from Albion High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Germany with an infantry company, then spent the rest of his life working multiple jobs at a time so his family never went without. Friends remember a kind, steady presence whose word was as good as any contract.
He was preceded in death by parents George and Jean Brewster and siblings Richard and Louise, and is survived by his brother Larry Brewster (Velma) and their children. A graveside service is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 10 at Roselawn Cemetery.

Jeanette Myers
December 27, 1940 - February 5, 2026 (age 85)

Jeanette Myers balanced a full career as a data analyst for the Central Kansas Cooperative in Education with a life of movement—sewing, bridge, puzzles, roller skating, and even the Punching Out Parkinson’s program were part of her weekly rhythm. Family and friends remember her as a peacemaker with a spunky sense of humor who never missed a grandchild’s milestone.
She is survived by her husband Sidney “Ralph” Myers, children Cindy Lynn Jensen and Tod Myers (Angela), 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and sister Linette Winsler. A celebration of life begins at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 9 at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel in Salina. Cremation has been chosen.
